Anxiety & OCD Treatment

Anxiety Disorders

It's normal for children to worry at times, but when fears become overwhelming they can affect school, friendships, and family life. Anxiety can take many forms and may present as avoidance of school or social events, frequent stomachaches or headaches, or even tantrums/irritability.

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)

Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is often misunderstood — and often misdiagnosed. OCD is not an anxiety disorder, though it can look like one. It is driven by intrusive, unwanted thoughts or images (obsessions) that trigger intense distress, and repetitive behaviors or mental acts (compulsions) performed to relieve that distress. The relief is temporary, and the cycle strengthens over time. Effective treatment requires a specialized approach.

Our Treatment Approach

Effective Interventions for Anxiety & OCD

The gold standard of care for anxiety and OCD is cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) — a structured, evidence-based approach that targets the thoughts and behaviors maintaining the problem. CBT helps children and families understand what's keeping anxiety going and build the skills to respond differently.

For OCD specifically, the most effective form of CBT is exposure and response prevention (ERP). ERP works by gradually exposing a child to the thoughts or situations that trigger obsessions, while supporting them to resist the compulsion that usually follows. Over time, this breaks the cycle and reduces the power OCD has over daily life.
